Nice Twilight.

Mixed light has always been a favourite of mine. Here is the view from our balcony this evening.

Nice Portishead Sunrise

My wife called me to alert me of the sunrise this morning. Below is the result. What you see is 6 images spliced together to help keep shadow and highlight detail.

Bowled Over this Summer!

It has been an interesting summer. Tangie and I had a great time at the Manchester County Cricket Club where we saw England give India a good licking. It's the first time either of us had witnessed world class cricket.

From the Window Seat of a 777.

It's not often I take a shot from the seat of a jet airliner and think it worthy of sharing. On this occasion however, the light was hitting the Manhattan Island skyline very nicely and despite the usual distortion and grime that comes with an aircraft window, I still managed to get this image. For the technically minded, I was using my Canon G1x. Manual focus on infinity. Aperture priority @ f16.

One Big Silver Lining.

Our new apartment is starting to feel like home and one extra nice feature is the beautiful view we have from the living room, patio and the two bedrooms. We overlook Portishead and one of these days, I think it could yield a great image. Here is a test shot...

April...A Challenging Month

April was a difficult month. I lost my beautiful mum. She was 92 years old. Thankfully she passed peacefully. painlessly, and with dignity. My mum had a wonderful spirit. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humour. She was an adorable lady and a very special mum. She will be missed.

At the same time that this happened I came down with a bad case of chicken pox and we had to move home as well. All is the same week!

Below is a studio portrait of my mum that I took in San Diego 25 years ago. Can't you just see the warmth of her character?

The Photography Show

Wow...The brainstorming session must have been exciting to behold when they came up with the title of this new show! This was its innaugural year and although there were wrinkles that I am sure will be ironed out by next year, it was difinitely well worth attending.
Not too much on the camera technology frontier, Wi-Fi connectivity is becoming increasingly popular, as is geo-tagging (the ability to record your exact location at the time of exposure in the meta data of the image).
Of course, this is already taken for granted by photographers who use their smart phones!

Sibling Harmony

One of the pleasures of my job is to witness family togetherness and especially that sibling bond thing. It's always cool to photograph and a value cannot be put on it. These brothers and sisters are a great example of this.

Slightly Big Waves

Saturday found me in Portcawl on the south Wales coast. Bad weather had been forecast and for once they got it right. The wind was blowing furiously and whipping up the sea into a frenzie. Perfect conditions for spectacular coastline photography. It did take about half an hour to get the feeling back in my totally frozen hands though.

If you would be so kind as to vote for your favourite below, I would appreciate it. The winner will be selected as an addition to my art gallery portfolio.

Bath Architecture.

The architecture around Bath really is something. In this shot the groom looks very much at home...he is Italian. His bride Russian.

Portishead. Our Home. A New Canvas.

I am proud to present a new canvas that will soon be showcased at a local restaurant. This image is 30"x40" and has been beautifully printed by my canvas printing specialists in Manchester.

Forever Love...Chantilly Style

I was walking through the vast and beautiful gardens of the Chateau de Chantilly 40 miles outside of Paris and I saw this older couple. They had found this quiet little spot and the tenderness and love that exists between them is plain to see. This sort of image is life affirming.

Self Portrait...I Really Don't Like Doing This.

I don't do self portaits very often so I should be good for the next 5 years. I'm not the easiest subject in front of the camera and the results you see below were obtained in just minutes using a self timer and pre-focusing.

Photo of the Day

Happy New Year to all of you out there. I hope 2014 provides you with tons of wonderful Kodak moments. I'm going to try to be more pro-active and post more frequently with some of my favourite images. This image was made in Poway State Park just outside of San Diego. The subject is the real deal, a ranching and farming student, Sierra wanted to include a cowgirl element in her graduation photographs.
